Every year, International Women’s Day reminds the world of the incredible power, strength, and influence of women — and this year, the Honourable Commissioner for the Kogi State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Hajia Rabietu Okute (Iye Ebule Onyete), joins in celebrating mothers and women everywhere.
In her warm message of felicitation, Hajia Okute paid glowing tribute to the resilience, compassion, and sacrifices of women who, through their daily acts of love and service, continue to shape homes, strengthen communities, and build nations. She described women as “the backbone of every family and a vital force in driving peace, unity, and sustainable development.”
According to the Honourable Commissioner, the role of mothers in maintaining peace within the home cannot be overstated. She emphasized that a peaceful home is the foundation of a peaceful society, urging mothers to always promote unity and understanding in their families. “Disagreements are normal,” she noted, “but how we handle them determines whether we build or destroy. Patience, communication, and forgiveness must be our tools in resolving conflicts.”
Hajia Okute passionately appealed to mothers to stand as pillars of love and tolerance, ensuring that domestic misunderstandings do not grow into violence or hostility. She reminded women that the values they model at home directly shape the minds and futures of their children — the next generation of leaders.
Beyond the family, the Honourable Commissioner also encouraged women to pursue empowerment and self-reliance. She highlighted that financial independence is key to reducing domestic abuse and achieving gender equality. “Every woman should strive to learn, grow, and become a source of support to others,” she said. “Let us mentor our young girls, support one another, and keep breaking the barriers that limit our progress.”
Hajia Okute further called on government agencies, NGOs, and community leaders to continue advocating for policies that protect women’s rights, uphold justice for victims of gender-based violence, and expand opportunities for women in all spheres of life.
Reaffirming her unwavering commitment to humanitarian service and poverty alleviation, she promised to keep championing initiatives that uplift women, especially those facing hardship and vulnerability.
In her closing remarks, Hon. Hajia Rabietu Okute offered heartfelt prayers for every mother and woman:
“May this year’s International Women’s Day renew your strength, fill your hearts with peace, and inspire you to keep being the light in your homes and communities.”
As the world celebrates International Women’s Day, her message stands as a powerful reminder — that when women rise, society thrives.
